Kathleen J. Abel

Leader, Negotiator, Financial Operations

Kathy has enjoyed life as a resident of Wrightsville for 33 years. She served on the Council for 4 years in the past, & currently serves on the Municipal Authority. Now she is ready to bring her community a fresh perspective. Kathy’s Bachelor of Arts in Sociology/Social Work strengthened her instinctive skills as a people person, a champion for children, and an advocate for community service.

Leader: As Director of the Summer Program for school children in Wrightsville (WCRC), Kathy coordinated the six-week food and activities and outings program.

Negotiator: Kathy represented the Teacher’s Assistants in school district negotiations for better salaries and benefits. She participated in the collective bargaining process representing the needs, concerns, and priorities of the Teacher’s Assistants and worked towards mutually acceptable agreements.

Financial Operations: Kathy was Treasurer for the Rotary Club, and now for the American Legion Auxiliary. She deposits member dues, donations, and other income; oversees the disbursement of funds for the Auxiliary’s activities and expenses; maintains records of all financial transactions, assists with the financials for fundraising activities, and reconciles bank statements with the club's financial records. She is a natural proponent of fiscal responsibility

Goals: Kathy believes the Council must:

  • Act as a unified, non-partisan team
  • Make well-informed decisions based on the law, the Borough’s budget, and the needs of the whole community
  • Responsibly manage taxpayers’ money.
